EMPTY AND FULL gravity and balance

05 October 2026

An empty bottle weighs little. Filled, it weighs many times more.
The shape is the same, but its behavior changes.
When the product enters, the center of gravity changes, the weight on the base increases, the stresses on the walls change, and the stability of the container becomes even more important.
Then the product is used and everything changes again.
The level drops, the weight decreases, the center of gravity shifts. The bottle should continue to be stable, easy to grasp, rest and use until the last part of its contents.
For this reason, designing a container also means considering something you can't see: the relationship between shape, weight, and gravity.
The geometry of the base, the distribution of volumes, the proportions between height and width are not just aesthetic choices.
They contribute to the balance of packaging under different conditions of use.
Empty, full or almost finished, a good container must continue to do something seemingly very simple:
stand up.
