Plastic under the sun, what to do on holiday

28 July 2025

With the arrival of summer and prolonged exposure to the sun, it is important to pay attention to how we treat the plastic containers that accompany us to the beach, on excursions or by the pool. We are talking above all about two great protagonists of holidays: drink bottles and sunscreen bottles.
Sun Creams, pay attention to heat.
Plastic sunscreen bottles are designed to withstand harsh conditions, but the contents can alter if exposed to high temperatures for a long time.
What happens?
High temperatures can reduce the effectiveness of the sunscreen.
Some chemical components may degrade, especially if the product has already been opened.
We keep the bottle in the shade, in the cooler or under the towel. We prefer tightly closed, resistant and opaque containers that better protect the contents from light.
Plastic drinks and bottles, never in direct sun.
We all bring bottles of water and soft drinks to the beach, but plastic exposed to the sun can alter the characteristics of the drink. Heat can cause small amounts of substances to be released from the plastic into the drink (especially if the bottle has been reused many times). Hot water promotes bacterial growth if the container has already been opened. Don't reuse disposable bottles too many times, especially under the sun.
Holiday is synonymous with relaxation, but also with attention and care for oneself and the environment. Small gestures, such as not leaving a bottle in the sun, make the difference.
And let's always remember not to waste anything in the environment. We throw the plastic into the appropriate containers for separate waste collection.
